Chug that water

This week’s challenge is to drink more water!

  1. When you wake up drink a cup of water (or more*)
  2. Keep a water bottle with you at all times!
  3. Aim for at least 64 oz of water each day, or half your body weight in ounces
  4. No soda , milk, or fruit drinks (even if it says 100% real juice!!)
  5. Before you reach for a snack ask yourself, “Am I actually thirsty?”
  6. Before you eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, drink some water

These are all important habits to keep for life (all except #4, where moderation is important). I just added milk in order for you to get a feel for drinking more water, and letting that be your main source for thirst quenching.

Beginner level: All numbers apply to you but #4. Simply increase your intake of water. Don’t go out and buy any drinks but water. Only drink soda or fruit drinks when offered or present at a party. At home, the only alternative for water is milk for your cereal. Don’t drink milk when you are thirsty, drink water. Aim for 64 oz, it’s fine if you don’t get it, just as long as you increased your water.

Advanced level: ALL numbers apply to you. The only time you stray is at most 1/2 cup of milk for breakfast if it’s for cereal. It’s fine if you don’t drink 64 oz, aim for it though.

Water is nature’s miracle!!!

My summary to the long article below:

Benefits of water:

• Improves endocrine (hormone) function

• Increases metabolic function

• Decreases appetite

• Increases fat used for energy

• Liver function improves

• Decreases fluid retention

• Increases natural thirst

Those are all true!! I  have seen it!

When I started drinking more water, the game changed! I can’t tell you how many times I have reached for a snack, or chocolate chips, and realized I was just thirsty. That saves a lot of calories at the end of the day/month/year! If you don’t like water, fake it to you make it. Push it hard for a week or two and you will find you are addicted to it. My clients tell me this ALL the time! They can’t stand being without their water bottle. It’s so awesome!

  2. Love this challenge! I started drinking a big cup of water right when I wake up about a year ago and I have seen a big difference. It feels so good to rehydrate after being asleep. It gives me a good little kick start in the morning and helps me feel refreshed. I find that if I drink water about a half an hour before I have a meal that it also helps me not feel as hungry, so I don’t over eat, and I am able to digest my food better rather than drinking with my meal. Keep the challenges coming!

  3. I’m all in! I have so not been drinking enough, my husband always tries to remind me, so I am excited to see how I feel after hydrating myself better.

  4. I’m in! I’ve been trying to drink 64+ oz of water every day since fall. I really think it helps your body flush out toxins and keep you healthy. Over the winter, every one of my coworkers got sick at least once and had to take work off, except for me!

  5. I feel such a difference when my water is in! Better stand aside tho – I will knock you out of my way to get to the bathroom! I have been trying to refill my water bottle during my work day—that hasn’t worked well. I am now filling my gallon jug and toting it with me – I like seeing my progress! I am 4 hours into my day – my gallon is half gone!

  6. I’m in Kirtley! I’ve been practicing all weekend. I keep a water bottle in hand, and another glass sitting next to the muffin jar! ha ha.
