Our 4 week holiday health challenge is wrapping up, and I’ve LOVED seeing the progress of the member! One client has lost 18 lbs in 5 weeks, it’s been fun to watch her progress!
I thought I would make a holiday gift guide for those of you who are trying to get healthier in the kitchen–this is what you can ask for!
It’s hard to make healthy food when you don’t have the right tools to make it convenient. When you have the right tools, you are much more likely to set yourself up for success. My number one tip in getting healthy is to make getting healthy as convenient as possible!!
You want cooking to be fast, easy and enjoyable! That way you are more likely to DO it and continue doing it!
So let’s get started!
Here are a few tools I have in my kitchen plus a few bonus ones. They would be great gift ideas for you or loved ones you know who are trying to healthify their kitchen!
I have a blendtec and love it except for then it gets stuck with pockets of air.
The Vitamix comes with a tool that keeps the food moving, which I would like someday. This is the blender my friend uses and loves…I guess you could say it’s on MY wishlist!
It’s crazy, sometimes just changing the way a vegetable looks or feels will make the difference in your kid trying the healthy meal or not.
I don’t have one because we just use our julienne peeler, but I have many friends that do and love it. The julienne peeler takes a lot of time, while this speeds it up. It’s a fun gift idea!
My friend who is a health coach as well, has one and says she uses it all the time.
4. Good knives
This one is more pricey but worth EVERY penny! If you get high quality knives they will last you forever, so it’s worth the investment.
They say you really only really need three knives: Chefs knife, paring knife and a serrated bread knife. I’d agree with that! I don’t use my bread knife very often, but I use the other two every single day.

Or you could go big with THIS one. This is the exact set I have and I love it. I was surprised at the one negative review it has which you will see I don’t agree with. Judge for yourself though, it’s a good start.
5. Spice rack with spices
Here’s a fun one and crucial for good cooking!
Most people (or their spouses and kids) don’t like eating healthy because “it doesn’t taste good.” Well, what if you actually knew how to season your food correctly??
Knowing how to use your spices is CRUCIAL. If you are starting to make changes in your cooking, you want it to taste good enough for you and your family to not only enjoy, but to want more. I will be posting about spice uses soon.
This is a great starter!
6. Recipe books
If you just rely on Pinterest for your recipes, take a look at this.
I highly recommend buying and sticking to 2-3 cookbooks as you start learning to cook healthy. This will lessen confusion and frustration in meal planing. It will also save you time.
Bookmark your favorite recipes and cook them several times until you can do it without looking! Your speed of cooking will increase and you will be able to make healthy meals quickly–which is always rewarding!
Oh She Glows–my FAVORITE vegan cookbook!
This one has a few meat recipes and great ideas for fancy veggie dishes. It was my first, and it’s great!
This has meat recipes, but I also love the variety. I apply the different seasonings to my whole foods plant based meals too.
Those are literally my three cookbooks! Meal planning goes so fast when I pull them all out!
7. Rice cooker
I hope you already have this one. I wouldn’t be able to survive without my rice cooker!
This was my last investment, and what really completed my kitchen. I love to cook my beans in my pressure cooker. The best strategy is to cook a big batch of beans once a week and keep it in the fridge or freezer for easy use. My go-to beans are black beans and chickpeas.
Meal ideas with beans:
- Rice on beans with seasoning or salsa
- Beans on baked or microwaved potato with veggies
- Beans in your salad (southwest salad)
- Tex Mex casserole (Oh She Glows)
- Chickpeas: Salad topper, falafels
This is LIFE changing!! It microwaves my vegetables so fast, I love it! This would be a fun, unique present. There is also a rice cooker version–so cool!
10. Food processor
Saved the best for last!
This one is a luxury, my favorite one. This will make your life a lot easier because it will chop your veggies way faster than you can. It’s hard to make the healthier recipes without this guy.
- Lara bars
- Chopping up veggies for any dish you’re making. Takes 2 minutes instead of 10 minutes.
***And for a bonus, a silicon baking sheet! I use mine all the time for baking veggies and making falafels!
